Van Gogh Famous Dutch Post-Impressionists Painter  born 30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890  had a far-reaching influence on his contemporaries.

Vincent Willem Van Gogh the master had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art and was one of the most famous Dutch Post-Impressionists painters whose work is typical for its emotional honesty - bold colors and rough beauty.

The v-Gogh museum under renovation too will soon be opened on the 1st of May 2013  the Museum has an unique collection of the 19th century master and is an experience in itself to visit. Nowhere in the world can one find so many paintings by Vincent van Gogh under one roof. It makes possible to closely watch the progress in the work of the master thoroughly or associate his paintings to works by other 19th-century artists from this collection. The museum also shows exhibitions of various subjects from 19th century art history too - well worth your time visiting this unique collection.

The master spent his early adulthood traveling between The Hague, London and Paris. He painted his first major famous work The Potato Eaters in “Drunen” the Netherlands in 1885 at the time in somber earth tones his palette consisted mainly of and showed no sign of the vivid coloration that distinguished his later work. After his stay in Paris he moved to Arles in 1888 the South of France and was influenced by the strong sunlight he found there. His art work grew brighter and he developed the unique and highly recognizable style that became fully realized during his stay in the South of France.

Amsterdam Calendar - 2013 will be a very special year in celebration of several events lots of things to do in the city from art exhibitions to a variety of concerts- processions and international sporting events so it will be a great year for Amsterdam shopping too.

After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness the master died aged 37 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound generally accepted. [although no gun was ever found] His work was then known to only a handful of people one of them his brother and benefactor Theo and appreciated by fewer at the time of his sudden dramatic death.

During his intensely active period just over a decade the master produced more than 2,100 artworks - consisting of more than 1,300 watercolor sketches prints and paintings 860 oil paintings and drawings. His work included self-portraits, paintings of cypresses –landscapes - still-lifes -  wheat fields  sunflowers and portraits.

According to art critic Robert Hughes, van Gogh's late works show an artist at the height of his ability, completely in control and "longing for concision and grace"

The extent to which his mental health affected his painting has been a subject of speculation since his death. Despite a widespread tendency to romanticize his ill health, modern critics see an artist deeply frustrated by the inactivity and incoherence brought about by his bouts of illness.
