Contemporary Watercolor-paintings are nowadays more durable and stay more colorful than in previous times - as a result of these new techniques a renewed interest in watercolor drawings have stimulated demand for watercolor paintings.
Watercolor a technique in which the various paint colors are made of pigments suspended in water - although Watercolor-painting is an extremely old technique dating back to the cave paintings of paleolithic times in Europe it has been widely used for manuscript illumination since at least Egyptian times. Especially since the European Middle Ages this technique continuous history as an art technique begins in the Renaissance. The German Northern Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer [1471–1528] painted several botanical - wildlife and landscapes in watercolors therefore Albrecht Dürer is generally considered among the earliest masters applying the watercolor painting technique. A prominent school of watercolor painting in Germany was run by Hans Bol [1534–1593] as part of Albrecht Dürer’s renaissance.

With a big example Vincent van Gogh -- produced nearly 150 watercolor paintings during his life -- often lacking his distinctive brush stroke textures, the watercolor paintings produced by Vincent van Gogh are unmistakably Van Gogh in his use of bold - vibrant colors - also his watercolors were used as field studies and later for his oil on canvas paintings.
In earlier times another well know master Albrecht Dürer’s young Hare from 1502 is a great example of that time used by Albrecht Dürer Waterclor-painting body color technique.
In East Asia -- watercolor painting was in the early days in vogue by various techniques using inks - referred to scroll painting or brush painting. In Japanese – Chinese - paintings it has been been for ages a dominant medium - often in black or neutral browns. Ethiopia – India and other countries also have long traditions of watercolor painting used in various ways such as fingerpainting with watercolor paint- a technique influenced from China.
Similar to his drawings Vincent van Gogh often made a watercolor study before doing an oil painting. Although his use of Watercolor painting technique are not as well-known as his oil paintings it was a part of the masters perfecting of skills by using more and brighter colors in his watercolours showing that over time he became more relaxed working with watercolour technique. As a result he was able to work quickly with his new found technique using watercolor to produce more impressive works of art. When van Gogh started working with watercolours he used his new found technique to add color to his drawings - but as he continuedusing them he began creating works that stood alone as watercolors.
