Finding cool unique gifts in Amsterdam center is a GREAT sport for the adventurous person looking to find something special to take home.
You might get inspiration by visiting a glass factory where you can see the art of glass blowing. Remember Amsterdam once world’s art capital has an abundance of modern paintings on display and some of the paintings on show are worth considering putting an offer and shipping home. Small unique gifts such as you can find at one of the many jewellery designers who perform their art from backrooms of their shops or in the shop window.
Another must visit place for unique small local produced gifts is at the Noordermarkt in "de Jordaan" being THE Amsterdam farmers market open at each Saturday – stalls are laden with fresh flowers – vegetables – fresh bread – woollen jumpers and hats. This colourful market in a 16th century setting is a beauty amongst all day markets therefore worthwhile visiting.
It is always a joy finding lasting souvenirs of the cities you visited and to take home treasures of your trips abroad. There are great varieties of unique gift ideas in Amsterdam to be found. For example at the bril museum [glasses museum] it is worthwhile visiting a crafts store where crystal craft and tourmaline pieces are exhibited and for sale.
A must visit is to the Westergasfabriek complex – located at the building complex of the former 19th century gas station of Amsterdam located at the “Haarlemmerweg” where each last weekend of month live exhibition are in full swing. An variety of products of diverse cultures are on display at the open market place of the Westergasfabriek. The best alternative market. I definably suggest you pay a visit and negotiate a price on one of the items you want to take home.
Don’t forget to visit the Wartelooplein flea market located at the town hall Stopera complex near the Moses and Aron church which is an interesting place getting unique shopping gift ideas. At the Waterlooplen market you can find treasures along with all kind of junk. As a teenager the Waterlooplein flea market had a great attraction to me it was my favourite market spending long hours wandering along the stalls. Do not forget Amsterdam merchants are used to negotiate for bargains. They all expect you to negotiate a price, some act shocked when you ask to lower the price – don’t take notice it is all part of the game.
Amsterdam Calendar - 2013 will be a very special year in celebration of several events lots of things to do in the city from art exhibitions to a variety of concerts- processions and international sporting events so it will be a great year for Amsterdam shopping too.
